How the peg works

One Hash Naira is always one Naira.

HNGN is backed by Naira we hold in reserve. The treasury float releases HNGN on funding and absorbs it on withdrawal — HashPay handles independent mint and burn to keep supply matched to bank reserves.

01

You fund in Naira

Pay into your dedicated account. Once we confirm the deposit, the treasury releases HNGN to your wallet from its on-chain float — 1:1, instantly.

02

Spend or send freely

Your HNGN moves peer-to-peer on Kross chain. Gas is sponsored, so transfers between HashPay wallets are free.

03

Withdraw back to Naira

Send your HNGN back to the treasury and we pay the exact equivalent in Naira to your bank account.

Questions

The things people ask first.

If something isn't covered here, the in-app support desk answers within the hour.

Is HNGN the same as Naira?

HNGN is a digital token pegged 1:1 to the Naira and backed by fiat reserves. When you fund, the treasury releases HNGN from its float to your wallet; when you withdraw, it absorbs HNGN back and pays Naira to your bank.

Do I need to verify my identity?

Yes. Tier 1 verification (name, date of birth and BVN or NIN) is required before you can transact, in line with CBN customer due-diligence rules. Higher tiers raise your limits.

What does it cost?

HashPay sponsors network fees on transfers, so sending HNGN between wallets is free. Funding, withdrawal and bill payments show any charge before you confirm.

Can my business use it?

Yes. The same account can switch to Business for QR checkout, payment links, staff accounts and bank settlement.

Why does my alias look different when I copy it?

Your friendly nickname is @kingofkross, but on the blockchain every HashPay alias is stored with a hashpay- prefix — so the technical address reads hashpay-kingofkross. You'll see @kingofkross in the app for sharing, and copying it gives you the full on-chain alias so payments land in the right place. Nothing is broken — it's just how the network keeps HashPay names separate from the rest of the Kross chain.

What stops someone from squatting a HashPay nickname?

The Kross alias registry is open, so in theory anyone could register hashpay-someone off-chain before that person joins HashPay. HashPay blocks this: every transfer is checked against our own verified profiles before it leaves your wallet. If hashpay-ademolu isn't a registered, identity-checked HashPay user, the payment is stopped and your money never moves. So even if a nickname is squatted, it can't receive funds through HashPay until the real owner signs up and verifies.

What happens if the nickname I want is already taken on-chain?

When you pick a nickname, HashPay checks the Kross network first. If someone — HashPay user or outsider — already owns that hashpay- name on-chain, you'll see "That nickname is already taken" and you can't claim it. You simply choose another. You'll never end up with a nickname that secretly points to someone else's wallet, because the collision is caught before anything is saved to your account.

Could a squatter take my nickname after I've claimed it?

No. Kross aliases are first-come, first-served and can't be overwritten. Once your wallet has claimed hashpay-kingofkross, no one else can register it — so a KYC'd user can never silently inherit an externally-squatted alias. If you're sending money and type a name that happens to be squatted outside HashPay, the transfer is blocked unless that address belongs to a registered, verified HashPay user.
